Alive
I know... no updates in a while. Sorry about that. Spent 3 weekends last month in San Diego, for some more freebie classes, and also helped Tracy get the hardware needed to complete her system. It's all put together now, and I have some sweet pics of it, but my gallery section is hosed and I got bit by a known bug where I can't create or delete albums.
So until I can get pics up, let me brag about the specs. Athlon XP 2000+, MSI KT3-Ultra ARU board, Mushkin 512MB PC2700 DDR, GeForce3 Ti 128MB DDR, a super fat copper Thermaltake Volcano 7+ cooler, all inside a sweet Lian-Li PC-60 case, connected to a 15" Viewsonic VA520 LCD flat-panel, and protected by an APC backup UPS. Did I leave anything out? Oh and it's dual booting between SuSE 8 and WinME. Damn this thing runs fast. And even though there are a total of 7 fans inside the case, it's more quiet than my system!
Speaking of my system, I've since dumped my water cooling rig and went back to the dual orbs. One reason is that I don't overclock anymore and really didn't notice the speed boost during normal use. I'm considering building a custom fanbus to control the orb fans as well as the other case fans.
I also installed a Promise Ultra133TX controller card to breathe new life into my system (my board only supports ATA33). I'm not ready to completely overhaul my system, and this $50 card is already making a significant improvement in my system performance, as it's doubled my hard drive transfer rate. So add that to the fact that I'm running Gentoo and I've got a pretty speedy computer. Now I can hold out long enough for whenever the AMD Opterons come out. =)
