Games for the Masses

I was just watching The Daily Show and I was surprised to see that gaming is more popular than I thought. Lewis Black was on doing his "Back in Black" editorial segment and he was saying how he likes video games better than reality. As soon as he mentioned GTA3 ("...how about senseless bloodshed in a moral vacuum? This is Grand Theft Auto 3..."), there was this HUGE round of cheers from the crowd. I didn't think the TDS crowd would be familiar with console games.

And then later in the show, Milla Jovovich came on to plug her Resident Evil movie and then she said she was a big fan of GTA3 (and the RE series too). This wasn't the first time I heard a celebrity talk about this game. Colin Hanks was on TDS a few months ago plugging Orange County, and most of the interview was him talking about the game, and giving a few tips along the way (the hooker health trick). Impressive...

So who knows, maybe the next time you play some online multiplayer game, you could be playing against a celeb. Now who wouldn't want to frag Carrot Top in a game of Quake? =)
