PS2 Ethernet Beta Test

I forgot to mention that I received my PS2 Ethernet Adapter 2 Fridays ago. It also came with a setup DVD along with 2 online game demos – one called "Frequency" and "NFL Gameday." Despite the embossed "HDD" label, the hard drive is not included. Although it appears that once this goes retail, there might be an option to pick up both the adapter and hard drive as a package, since the adapter already provides power and IDE connections for the hard drive.

Setup was pretty painless. The disc even had a short CG animation on how to install the adapter. As you can see from the pics, the adapter also doubles as a modem, so even dial-up people can use it. Frequency is a simple but addicting game. I think of it as Parappa-meets-Tempest. I didn't play much of Gameday (read: got as far as the chat lobby and that was it), because sports games aren't my bag, baby.

Then last Friday, I got Twisted Metal Black: Online, which I thought I would get into, but I quit after having the PS2 freeze twice during 30 minutes of gameplay. I guess that's all I have to report.

If you do get one of these things, I recommend getting a USB keyboard. Any PC USB keyboard will do. Otherwise you're going to be chatting with the controller/on-screen keyboard.
