Server Reboot
I had to reboot my server, after 100+ days of uptime due to user stupidity. A friend of mine wanted to play some Quake, but he can't serve, so I had to. But for me to do that I had to hook up my DSL modem directly into my desktop box. But I got the wires mixed up and hooked up the cable from my server (which also functions as a firewall/router) to my desktop box. So after 15 minutes of troubleshooting, I finally got the wires all sorted out and played some Q3.
When that was all done, I hooked up my desktop to the hub and the DSL modem back to my server. But from my desktop, I couldn't get any ping responses from the server. I think I messed up the network services by hooking up the desktop straight to my server. I know I could have hopped onto the server and just restarted the network daemons, but the server is in my closet and runs headless. And since it was 1:30am, I was too lazy and tired to move my monitor and plug it into the server. So I just did a Vulcan neck pinch and rebooted the server...
